3 unexpected benefits of massage

What might the benefits of massage be for you?

We’re shifting our focus to health in this episode. Holistic health specifically. Where all of you is taken into consideration.

Because health is something we often pay attention to, only when it’s not so good. As opposed to it being a standard part of our lives.

Whilst there are many things we can do for our health, for us, massage is a go to which we’d love to become a go to for you.

If you’re open to it.

So, here’s a little something if you’re moving towards the idea.

Because there are many kinds of massage to choose from with different considerations and focuses for each one.

For example.

Swedish massage is for easing tension in muscles, typically for those with physically demanding lifestyles or jobs.

It uses a variety of pressures during the session.

Deep tissue massage is good for more targeted chronic and long-term pains. Useful when recovering from injuries or posture challenges.

It uses heavier pressure during the session.

And pain relief massage is good for easing stress and tension from mentally and physically demanding lifestyles or high-pressure jobs.

It uses combined pressures during the session.

But it’s better to think about why you want a massage more than considering the type.

Because knowing why will makes it easier for you to decide.

I fell in love with massage when I had 2 of my 3 children.

Even with their dad helping, there was always something 'to do', and I welcomed any temporary relief in between it all.

I wanted to relax and slow things down for a while.

That hour of completely trusting the process, letting go and letting someone else take care of me, was one of the best feelings.

Before long, I decided that I wanted to help others feel the same as I had. If they want to.

Then, I learned how.

Massages helped me so much, that one year, I made a rare new years’ resolution.

To have one massage a month, with the best massage therapist I could find.

And I did.

It turns out, I’m not the only one, thankfully.

Because massage is often perceived as an expensive luxury.

Usually supported by the fact that they’re mainly offered at spas and health clubs. But more people aren’t just going to spas for massages anymore.

They’re going to a therapists’ location, having the therapist come to their home or visiting specialist treatment practitioners.

So much so, that the American Massage Therapy Association's annual consumer survey, found that while:

-       29% of people now view massage as "only a form of pampering,"

-       86% consider it a form of healthcare and

-       91% believe it benefits overall health and wellness

And massage is a great complementary therapy that can work alongside your osteopathy and chiropractic sessions, for example.

Not just complementary to physical therapies either.

It can work well alongside counselling or psychotherapy too.

Why?

Because speaking about things troubling us, gives energy and momentum to stressors mentally and emotionally.

Which, if you recall from our Wellbeing Guide, will inevitably show up in your body physically.

This is why understanding some metaphysics can be really helpful in pin pointing areas that might need more soothing.

And it’s wise to go with what you feel is best for your body.

Because you’re the one living in it!

Knowing when it’s out of balance.

So how do we massage?

We now specialise in Pain Relief & Muscle Recovery massage, with Holistic Aromatherapy at its core.

We’re tuning into all of you and your world mentally, physically and emotionally, first.

Before the session, we review your stressors, relaxers, and coping mechanisms you might use.

You’ll tell us about any conditions we need to be aware of, to prevent discomfort for you. And we prepare the best oil blend to use in your session.

During the session, you’re covered with enough towels, for privacy.

Then, you’ll connect with Us. Synching up our breathing and gentle music, as we begin massaging your back.

We apply the selected oil blend to your body, combining Swedish and deep tissue massage techniques to relieve your pains and loosen those tense muscles.

Half way through, we’ll tell you when it’s time to turn over to massage your front.

After the session, we’ll guide you to disconnect from us, and back to your Self.

We finish, leaving you for a moment to ease off the table, get dressed and come back to the world!

Now. About these 3 unexpected benefits?

Well. There was another time in my life when I didn’t realise the impact my experience was having on me.

Sadly, it’s when I was being bullied and harassed at work.

I’d continued going for my massages while it was happening, which was a struggle because I felt so low.

The benefits, however, were:

1.    They revealed dominant thoughts

I’d been having thoughts like ‘how could I let this happen to me again?’ And ‘Why am I not standing up for my Self like I usually do?’.

These and similar thoughts were breaking the speed limit in my mind. Daily! My nervous system (the one that responds to stress), was too stressed to relax me.

2.    They uncovered invisible wounds

I felt internal bruising in my arms, legs, torso and even my feet. None of which were visible.

Those toxins needed help to get out of my system. My lymphatic system (the drainage one), couldn’t completely clear itself.

3.    They released supressed feelings

Once the thoughts slowed down, I was able to recognise that I was feeling guilt for what was going on, then relief.

From there, I could have more compassion for my Self again. Because my limbic system (the one running emotional responses), knew that what was happening to me wasn’t ‘usual’.

It was bang out of order! Those f@*%$#s!!!

Anyway. I’m curiously wondering about what you could be going through.
